FUNCTION

Faster, stronger, heavier and first of all, safer – with Atzlinger air brake systems

Modern day agriculture shows a clear trend towards heavier and bigger equipment in terms of transport machinery. To secure a safe transportation of goods, there is a rising demand for precisely working brake systems on both tractor and trailer, which work in perfect synergy.

Atzlinger offers a wide variety of Air Brake Systems, additional equipment and spare Parts for most current and prior tractor and trailer types. In the section PRODUCTS you can find an overview of the product range.

The following passage describes the function of an air brake system on tractor and trailer.

Tractor with 2 Line air brake system

When operating the tractor brake (foot- or handbrake) the trailer is braked automatically. Brake force on the trailer is adjusted ether by the mechanical hand brake-force controller, or the automatic brake-force controller, depending on the carried load.

2- Line System Trailer,

2 axles braked, ALB valve

When the trailer breaks away from the tractor while driving, trailer brakes are automatically activated. After the engine is stopped, the trailer can still be braked a few times, due to the air reserves saved in the trailer`s air tanks.

Funktionsschema

functional Schematic Trailer

  1. Trailer brake valve
When actuated via the "yellow" brake line, braking of the trailer is initiated / Tear-off safeguard, emergency brake

  2. Air tank
Separate air supply on trailer for emergency braking and as a tear-off safeguard

  3. 3/2-Way valve
Is used to actuate and release the service brake system and the spring-loaded brake system when uncoupled

  4. Load sensing valve
The automatic braking force regulator is used to adapt the brake force according to the load condition

  5. Emergency coupling with integrated filter
Connects the compressed-air lines between the towing vehicle and  the trailer - red : coupling head for supply line / Filter protects the system against dirt

  6. Service coupling with integrated filter
Connects the compressed-air lines between the towing vehicle and the trailer - yellow: coupling head for brake line / Filter protects the system against dirt

  7. Double diaphragm spring brake cylinder
Combined spring brake-diaphragm brake chambers (Tristop ® Cylinders) are used to generate the brake force for the wheel brakes. They consist of the diaphragm part for the service braking system and the spring-loaded part for the auxiliary and parking brake

  8. Diaphragm brake cylinder
Correctly dimensioned cylinders ensure optimum brake perfomance

  9. 2-way quick release valve
Two-way valve with quick release function for quick deflation of the brake hoses

functional Schematic Tractor

  1. Air compressor
Large volume compressor assures fast filling times

  2. Air dryer with pressure regulation
Regulates the system to an operating pressure of approx. 8 bar and removes moisture from the air to protect the system from corrosion and frost

  3. Pressure gauge
Air pressure gauge for monitoring the pressure in the air tanks

  4. brake pedal main brake cylinder
Actuates the trailer control valve for safe braking

  5. Air tank
Air reservoir to ensure the required braking functions, including extended downhill driving and when the engine is turned off

  6. Trailer control valve S-TCV
Modular trailer control valve for vehicles with hydraulic brake systems to control pneumatic trailer brake systems

  7. Breakeway valve ELR
Safety valve which activates the trailers emergency braking function during braking if the brake control line of the trailer is damaged or interrupted

  8. Emergency coupling
Connects the compressed-air lines between the towing vehicle and the trailer - red : coupling head for supply line

  9. Service coupling
Connects the compressed-air lines between the towing vehicle and the trailer - yellow: coupling head for brake line
